A live projection for the Astra Gallery in the vacated Unceta weapons factory in Gernika April 26, 27, and 28. - 2007 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the bombings in Gernika in 1937.
Some impressions from the production in 2005-06 and from one of the events during the
presentation in April 2007. Also shown in a different edit on Basque TV in connection with the event.
Filmed by Zigor Extebarria, (who also produced the event in Gernika) and Dani Asua
The work consisted of a live projection (about 40 minutes) and two prints on archival watercolor paper. 125 x 500 cm each

My focus was on the universal feeling of helplessness towards, seemingly random, brutal external forces. A terror bombing of civilians. A decision, or anticipation of events, made far away, outside the reach or control of the people that were affected.
Related to events of today; it could be a tsunami, a hurricane, unjustified war or a terror bombing maybe. Man-made politically/economically motivated forces.
Forces that seemingly without discretion or regard to how a life is lived, take it away.

On a purpose-built “canvas” (which had the exact dimensions of Picasso’s famous painting) I made a live-executed projection of the Infra Red time-lapse images with 4-channel sound.
With a microphone, I make loops of sound, live, over sampled loops I have made during my three visits to Gernika and in front of the Picasso painting at the Reina Sofia in Madrid.
The first place this painting was exhibited after the World Expo in Paris was at Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo, my home town.
A sketch of the hall and the white-painted plywood box.

A fourth piece in the Gallery was a video-monitor showing a documentary made by Dani and Zigor
