A PRECISE MEASURE OF FREEDOM

For about one hour, in the early morning and early evening, monday through friday, 6. to the 28. of January 2018, I projected a new animation-loop on my studio windows in connection with an exhibition at Bærum Kunstforening. These windows face the track of the T-bane (Oslo public transport)

The projections could be observed by travellers on their way to, or coming home from work, for approx. 3-4 seconds whilst shooting past my house. That is, if they sat on the proper side in the tram-coach.

In a deterministic environment, tied to railtracks  with a seemingly forseeable timing of events, the viewers had to make meaning out of a fragment of the information in the projected loops.

The daily loop was also uploaded every evening to a small computer connected to a flatscreen in the Gallery.  Next day the new loop, made the previous day, would appear on this screen. There were 15 loops in all.

In the Gallery the viewer was given freedom to create the narrative.  Turn away or come back to the project, choosing the timing in the reading.
